LEMI Lab

The Language, Embodied Media & Interaction (LEMI) Lab is a research group led by Dr. Samantha Gorman at the University of California, Santa Cruz's Baskin School of Engineering.

Our exploration of these areas is technology and platform agnostic, but may borrow learnings from our experience in AI, VR, AR, games and generative systems.

Story Technology
We design real-time systems and methods for creating live, responsive narratives. Our work investigates how computational media can transform the way stories are authored, performed, and collectively experienced.

Digitally Mediated Performance
As a living laboratory for the future of live experience: we stage encounters between humans and intelligent systems, creating performances where audiences, actors, writers, and AI shape what happens together in real time.

Immersive World/XR
AR/VR apps and worlds are developed to interrogate the experience/definition of “immersion.” To better understand this evolving space, we participate in critical making, historical investigation, and participatory design.
